No more twitter on the blog

I’ve turned off the plugin that automatically adds a daily digest of my twitter updates to my blog. I can’t imagine anyone feeling anything but relief about that decision.
There are three reasons why I decided to do this. The first is that (I think) it was reducing the chances of me feeling inclined to write [...]

A confronting exploration of contemporary society or just plain kiddie porn?

Controversy is rocking the Sydney art scene (actually I have no idea how the art scene is reacting, I just wanted to write like a news journalist for a moment - I’m over it now though).
Police shut down an exhibition by photographer Bill Henson over allegations of child pornography (text article, TV clip with more [...]

Nothin’s more Oz than cricket

I did the sample Australian Citizenship test this morning. The five questions I had to answer were pretty easy - for someone who’d lived in Australia for a long time anyway. I’m not entirely sure that knowing the national flower emblem is really the criteria we want to be using to decide who gets to [...]

Will you still need me? Will you still feed me?

I read Dana Boyd’s apophenia blog sometimes and yesterday I read the post, Technology and the World of Consumption. Really interesting, as always.
However, what struck me (around about the Alan Kay quote) was the sense of my own age. I guess I like to flatter myself that I’m in touch with modern technology and culture. But, [...]

First Impressions

Here’s Looking At You
A short video exploring people’s first impressions of others based on just their appearance. They then describe how they see themselves for comparison.
That’s interesting enough, but what fascinated me was the way that some people seemed to be carefully managing what they said about certain other people. It was as if they [...]
